School Farm

1 in 4 people in Sub-Sahara Africa are affected by hunger with children being the most vulnerable.

We are joining the campaign of “Farm to School Africa” to reinstate the value of school farms.

Its primary focus is to promote the development of school farms across high schools, technical schools, and universities in Africa. By integrating practical agricultural education, HTI aims to empower students with the skills and experience needed to make a sustainable impact in their communities. Additionally, HTI supports individuals who are interested in entering the agricultural sector, with the goal of improving food security and creating employment opportunities for young people.

What Should the School Do?

HTI provides grants to support schools that meet the following criteria:

1. Offer an agriculture degree even if it is an associate degree except high school and technical schools.

2. Can run a school farm of at least ten acres of land.

3. Apply for the grant of up to $5,000 with a business plan including the following:

  • Type of farm, activities, and its role in education.

  • Market analysis

  • Farm operations plan

  • Educational component

  • Financial plan: start-up cost, revenue streams, operating costs, and profit projections.

  • Potential local community partners

  • Rist assessment and mitigation strategies

  • Timeline: phases of implementation and long-term vision.

4. The school farm manager completes a short business ethics course provided by Hidden Treasures International Inc.
