FAQs
Here, we answer some of the most common questions about our mission, initiatives, and how you can get involved.
What is HTI?
Hidden Treasures International (HTI) is a nonprofit organization founded in August 2024. Our mission is to raise awareness about Africa’s untapped agricultural potential and to support school farms that provide hands-on farming experience to students and community members.
What inspired the founding of HTI?
HTI was inspired by Aesop’s fable “A Rich Farmer and His Sons,” which teaches that true wealth comes from hard work and cultivating the land. We see Africa’s vast arable land as a hidden treasure that, if properly utilized, can transform communities through food security and employment opportunities.
What are the main goals of HTI?
Raise $50,000 to sponsor 10 school farms in the first year.
Provide agricultural education and employment opportunities.
Improve local food production and food security.
Expand into supporting individual farmers with training and commercial farming resources.
How does HTI support school farms?
HTI provides funding, resources, and training to educational institutions to establish or revive school farms. These farms serve as learning environments where students gain practical farming skills while contributing to food production for their communities.
How will the funds be used?
Funds raised will be used for:
Providing seeds, tools, and farming equipment.
Training students and community members.
Establishing irrigation and sustainable farming systems.
Supporting operational costs of the farms.
How can schools apply for funding?
Schools interested in establishing or reviving a farm can apply through our website by submitting a proposal detailing their plans, community impact, and commitment to agricultural education. Educational institutions will have to look for additional funding in the form of bank loans, government grants, etc.
Who benefits from the school farm initiative?
Students: Hands-on agricultural knowledge, business skills, career pathways, and lower tuition.
Schools: Sustainable food sources and enhanced educational programs.
Communities: Increased food production helps local economies and improves food security.
What is the second phase of the HTI’s initiative?
After successfully establishing school farms, we plan to expand by sponsoring individual farmers who will contribute to community employment and food security.
